Harry Potter movie-book difference 2

He was one eccentric house-elf but I thrive on eccentricity. We could have been friends if he was real. He was seriously loyal too. If only he was a bit taller and good looking... nah, I still wouldn't. Hahaha.

This is the movie-book difference for book 2. The same rule applies. :)

Movie-book difference HP2

·         The view of the Dursleys downstairs while Dobby was making a commotion at Harry’s room was way better in the movie than in the book. *They only showed Vernon’s fury after the cake incident in the book. √

·         The cake/pudding was not supposed to land on Mrs. Mason but on the kitchen floor. *I’ll explain it in the succeeding change.

·         The reason for not being able to seal the deal was not because of the cake but the owl. *This is long to portray so the cake was okay. √

·         It was not Vernon Dursley who fit the bars at Harry’s window, it was supposed to be a handyman. *I don’t think any ladder will be able to hold Vernon up so I thought that was illogical but another extra person cost more. I agree. √

·         Harry’s trunk and all school things was supposed to be locked up at the cupboard under the stairs so he should have not been able to get it that easy. *It’s gonna be a long story so this one’s okay. √

·         With the Floo powder, there should have been fire first before they step in. *Graphics don’t come cheap nowadays so maybe there trying to do cost-cutting? :D It was okay still anyway. :D

·         At Diagon Alley, it was not Hermione who repaired Harry’s glasses, it was Arthur Weasley.

·         They made it look that its accidental to meet Hermione in Diagon Alley. But in the book, they actually scheduled to meet there with the Weasleys. *It was easy if they just read Hermoine’s letter to meet in Diagon Alley.

·         At Flourish and Blotts, the diary that Lucius Malfoy inserted was supposed to be inside the transfiguration book, not outside like the in the movie. *This one’s illogical, it would have alerted Harry’s interest since he saw the addition to the pail. But it could pass off as Harry not remembering there were two books in there as well.

·         There was supposedly a fight between Lucius and Arthur at Flourish and Blotts. *I didn’t like them losing their temper that easily too. √

·         The car should have been invisible before they flew it. *They made it a point anyway to let us think that the wizarding folks don’t know much about wat is normal for muggles. Which is okay. √

·         The car was supposed to be on the ground while the Whomping Willow was battling it, not up the tree. *The actions in the movie is way better. √

·         It was supposedly Snape who saw them first after arriving with a flying car, not Filch. *Entirely illogical! I think the reason why Snape was looking for them in the first place it’s because Dumbledore asked him to check on them. And also, Filch surrendering them to Snape is questionable, why snape when he could have gone to McGonagall? Χ

·         Who said about not expelling them today and writing to their families was not McGonagall but Dumbledore. *A letter from the principal would have been a better sanction than a letter from the guidance counselor right? But who cares? :D

·         The howler in the movie was far better than the book. √

·         At Greenhouse 3, the earmuffs is supposedly sound proof, pink, and fluffy. *So Neville shouldn’t faint. Though they did say that it was not because he didn’t put the earmuffs properly but that, he just fainted. Which is also illogical since Neville likes Herbology! Χ

·         At the first Gilderoy class, Neville was supposed to drop from the chandelier. *Well, I don’t like pain so that’s okay. And the freezing charm in the movie was better than the book. √

·         The one who talked about what a mudblood was not Hermione but Ron. *Hermione was supposedly oblivious of the word. But I guess they think additional drama would do the trick. As for me, it was unnecessary.

·         It was only Harry who found petrified Mrs. Norris and not with Hermione and Ron. *I don’t get this one. They didn’t even emphasize it was detention with Gilderoy which Ron was also doing detention with Filch. Hermione and Ron just popped up saying they were looking for him then he heard voices. I know it cuts air time but it’s kind of confusing. If it’s not detention then, where is there “supposed detention” that McGonagall said? Χ

·         The teachers were not supposed to know that Mrs. Norris was petrified that easy. *Come to think of it, they do know if one’s been hit with a Petrificus Totalus spell. But the effect is different because with that spell, you’re body gets rigid or straight. With the victims, they were petrified with their exact body position. That’s maybe why Dumbledore got confused in the book.

·         The one who said about “Hearing voices even in the wizarding world is not a good sign...” was not Hermoine but Ron. *I like this one again because, Ron has supposedly less idea of the muggle world so how come he knows hearing voices for muggles is disturbing? So it fits that Hermione says it. Well done. √

·         At the dueling club, they were not supposed to be on the platform but on the floor. *I think having them all dueling on the floor would be chaos. But I still would have liked to see. :D

·         At the dueling club, the one who will turn anybody into a matchbox was not Ron but Neville.

·         The teacher who talked about the chamber of secrets was not Professor McGonagall but Professor Binns. *After all, his the History of Magic professor, so he would have known better. Χ

·         Harry hearing a snake voice in the infirmary before Colin got petrified was not in the book. *But it makes sense! Well done. √

·         Harry was supposed to see Colin Creevey petrified in the infirmary, not just merely listening.

·         The password to Dumbledore’s office was supposedly Lemon Drop, not s#$%@$* lemon. *Couldn’t hear the first word, sorry. :D

·         At Dumbledore’s office, the sorting hat is supposedly worn before it talks, and not talk freely.

·         At the girls bathroom, the polyjuice potion was supposed to change colors after they put hairs. *It makes us think that there was a difference at all. Surely that graphic trick would have been easy. Χ

·         Goyle was not supposed to still wear glasses after Harry’s transformation. *Because the moment they changed, Harry’s eyesight would have been the same as Goyle’s. Surely he’ll notice that he’s having blurred vision with the glasses than without?? Χ

·         At the flashback memory, the monster was supposedly behind the door, not the box.

·         Penelope Clearwater was supposedly petrified together with Hermione.

·         At the Forbidden Forest, the car was supposed to show up before Aragog. *But they could easily just say they did a shortcut. :D

·         At the Forbidden Forest, Aragog should have had white eyes because of blindness. *After all, he’s 50 yrs old. But, since he’s a magical creature, he could pass off as someone who can live longer than normal.

·         Harry and Ron knowing about who was taken to the chamber of secrets was not outside the corridors but at the staff room. *It was wrong to announce that staff should be meeting at the corridor because anybody who is like Fred and George would have gone there too to check as to why. Χ

·         The pipe sinking action in the movie was more detailed and elaborate. √

·         Harry was supposed to be healed before Tom Riddle was extinguished.

·         The way Dobby was freed was supposedly Lucius unconsciously giving Dobby the sock, not the sock inside the diary. *But they way they did in the movie was more logical. Applause! √

Harry Potter movie-book difference

I don't know how to draw the tears so I didn't put it. Until now, I couldn't accept that Dumbledore is gay. Seriously J.K.? *sighs* Well there was an incident in HP1 when Dumbledore swapped his wizard's hat with a flowered bonnet on Christmas dinner with another teacher. But I had always thought he was a bit off his rocker. :D

There are of course differences from the book and the movie. I can't blame the producers to cut something off or to change some scenes so air time wouldn't be too long. But there are just things you can't change. Cause it might conflict on the story as a whole. Actually, I prefer nothing should be changed at all. Hehe. But, but, but, I'm no expert in cinematography and such so I guess it can't be helped. Well, there are also changes that are exceptional. Applause for the editors! Kinda contradictory eh? That's why I'm going over what differences I've seen. I'll check it if its a good change. Mark X if its not. Might put some footnotes too. For those in the middle, I'll leave it as it is. You can contend it if you want to. I've always been open for any. :D And when I say they, I meant the producers/movie-makers.

HP1 book-movie difference:

·         At the first part of the movie; the put-outer from Dumbledore was only for turning off light, not sucking them out.

·         At zoo and snake incident; the glass was not supposed to appear back. *But that was funny so it’s a yes. √

·         During the mail incident; Harry was supposed to be in Dudley’s second bedroom by the 2^nd mail. *Well, that’s gonna take a lot of explaining to do so it’s a yes. √

·         At the hut on the sea; Hagrid was not supposed to mistake Dudley as Harry. *But I think, it coincides with how most of the wizarding folks don’t know him either. √

·         At the hut on the sea; Hagrid was supposed to be furious with the Dursleys upon knowing that Harry is oblivious about witchcraft and wizardry. *This is a kiddie movie so I don’t think fury is going to be a good start. √

·         At the hut on the sea; Hagrid was supposed to sleep over. But asked harry to go out in the middle of the night! *I can’t seem to find logic in this. Yes, it will cut off most of the air time but seriously? Χ

·         At the leaky cauldron; Harry was supposed to recognize Dedalus Giggle but he didn’t. *Again, it’s a long story. √

·         At the leaky cauldron; Professor Quirrell was supposed to be shaking hands with Harry and not afraid to do so. *It defeats the reason why he was wearing a turban. Voldemort was so mad at him for not being able to get the sorcerer’s stone at Gringotts that he decided to possess him so he can monitor his activities. That’s why he’s not supposed to be wearing a turban before the Gringotts incident. Χ

·         At Diagon Alley; it wasn’t Harry who pointed out that he still lacks a wand for school requirements, it was supposedly Hagrid. And he was supposed to accompany Harry at Ollivander’s. *I think that worked out, he had the excuse to buy Harry his birthday present.

·         At Ollivander’s; Harry was supposedly not being able to wave the wand, not blow things up instead. *The change was catchy and a little less boring for the masses. √

·         The talk about Voldemort was supposedly at the hut on the sea, not in the Leaky Cauldron.

·         Hagrid was not supposed to leave Harry in King’s Cross station the same day he picked up Harry from the hut on the sea on his birthday! *This was preposterous. Remember, school starts in September 1. Harry’s birthday was on July 31^st. He can’t be going to school on August 1 right???  Χ

·         At the Hogwarts’ Express; Harry was supposed to flip the frog card so he’d be able to read about Nicholas Flamel. *That’s the reason why Hermione gave Ron a box of chocolate frogs during Christmas so Harry will remember. Χ

·         At the Hogwarts’ Express; there was nothing in the book about Hermione repairing Harry’s glasses. *But come to think of it, he was supposed to be wearing scotch-taped eyeglasses. The glasses were repaired by Arthur Weasley in the second book though. I guess J.K. thought wearing taped eyeglasses for another year wouldn’t hurt? :D Χ

·         At the Hogwarts’ Express; Ron’s wand was supposedly scotch-taped too. A disadvantage for a hand-me-down wand.

·         At the boat ride to Hogwarts, Neville, Hermione, Ron, and Harry was supposed to be in the same boat.

·         At the banquet; Dumbledore’s usual school announcements was supposedly after they have eaten, not before. *This contradicts Dumbledore’s character as he never does announcements before banquets. Also, they didn’t show him say “Nitwit, Blubber, Oddment, Tweak!” Because that will come handy I think in book 7. Χ

·         At the sorting; Ron was supposedly called after Harry, not before. *I know it adds effect to make Harry last but the sorting was alphabetical. So it’s illogical to do otherwise. Unless you do roll call in random? Χ

·         At breakfast and mail time, Hermione was not the one who lectured about the remembral, it was Neville. *I guess this worked out. Hermione being all-knowing. √

·         At the first flying lessons class; Harry was supposed to catch the remembral in a 50-foot dive, not near McGonagall’s window. *This worked out too. Rather easy to explain how McGonagall saw him with the broomstick rather than, just popping out of nowhere in the book. :D √

·         Being the youngest seeker in the century was said by Oliver Wood, not McGonagall. *There wasn’t even that trophy room that held his father’s seeker badge anywhere in the book. But it did say in the book that James Potter was a seeker too.

·         At finding out about Fluffy incident; it was supposedly due to the duel with Draco Malfoy, and not because of getting lost with changing staircases. *I think this one’s okay. It is quite long to go with the book with this one. √

·         At the girl’s bathroom with the troll; Harry was supposed to jump through the troll’s club not at the back and Harry was supposed to wipe off the troll’s booger with the troll’s clothes not Harry’s robes. *Nah, this doesn’t matter.

·         The Bloody Baron is supposed to be covered with silver blood, not red blood.

·         At breakfast and mail time; Harry and Ron were supposed to open the broomstick parcel in their room, not at the great hall.

·         At the first quidditch match; Dumbledore was not supposed to be watching. *This is contradictory, because, no curse can surpass Dumbledore’s eyes like that! Even Hermione noticed the curse at once. And Professor Quirrell will never attempt a curse in front of Dumbledore. That’s suicide. Χ
·   At the first quidditch match; The catching of the snitch was more detailed in the movie than in the book. *A great improvement. Applause! √

·         On Christmas; Ron’s sweater was supposedly just plain maroon. No letter R should be in it.

·         On Christmas; Presents are supposedly put on the foot of the bed, not in the common room. *This is illogical too. If that’s how it works, then, there should have been heaps of presents on that Christmas tree! And besides, it will contradict the next books and movies. Duh? Χ

·         Snape and Quirrell’s serious chit chat was not supposedly in the corridor but out in the forbidden forest. *I agree that this is too long to portray. With Harry snooping around in a broomstick and all. √

·         At the unknown room with the Mirror of Erised; Harry was supposed to see his entire clan, not just his mom and dad. *That’s pretty tricky and costly so I think that’ll do. √

·         At the library; Hermione was not the one who remembered who Nicholas Flamel is. It was Harry, when he gave Neville a chocolate frog after his leg-locker curse encounter with Malfoy. *They might have thought it seemed like it’ll work out since they didn’t make Harry flip the chocolate card in the first place. But it makes the plot mediocre. *shrugs*

·         At the Forbidden forest detention; Firstly, the reason for the detention was wrong, it was supposedly because, McGonagall caught Malfoy, Neville, Hermione, and Harry wandering the corridors in the middle of the night when Harry and Hermione were sending Norbert away, not because Malfoy tell-tale about seeing them at Hagrid’s hut during the dragon hatching. *Well, that’s quite a long story to tell right? But how can they explain how Hagrid got rid of Norbert? I know their way was logical, but they left us hanging about what happened to Norbert. I don’t think Malfoy will keep mum upon knowing Hagrid is housing an illegal dragon right? Χ

·         At the Forbidden forest detention; Firenze was supposed to be good looking, not scary looking.

·         At the Forbidden forest detention; Harry’s head was supposed to hurt when hooded Voldemort was advancing on him. *This is seriously contradictory. So it’s a NO. Χ

·         At the Devil’s snare incident; The devil’s snare is not supposed to free you if you’re not panicking. *It would contradict HP6! Remember the incident at St. Mungos? It should have been just fire or light which Hermione did. There’s also no way to go down, it supposedly just forward based on the book. Χ

·         At the winged keys incident; Both Ron and Hermione was supposed to chase the keys with Harry leading them, not just Harry alone.

·         At the Giant chess set incident; Ron was not supposed to be riding the Knight piece, he was supposed to replace it. Just like Harry and Hermione. There was supposedly no smashing to pieces. Just limp chessmen. Hermione was not supposed to stay with Ron either. *This one, I think they have an explanation for this. With the Devil’s snare, they made it a point that Hermione shines. With the winged keys, they made, Harry shine. And with the Chess set, they made Ron shine. So, all’s well. But no, it’s not. They ignored that it’s actually, one barrier for every teacher. That was the highlight. As for me. Χ

·         At the last barrier with the Mirror of Erised; Harry was supposed to be wrapped up in ropes and not just merely standing and asking Professor Quirrell questions.

·         At the last barrier; Harry was supposed to be in pain too while touching Professor Quirrell. *This is super contradictory. Harry can’t stand being near Voldemort as his scar hurts. How much more if he touched him? Χ

Harry Potter unanswered questions

 It does seem to be all about him, doesn't it? :)) 4th drawing.

These questions make me think how clever J.K. is. I mean, it's like, she already knew what to write for the next books, up until book 7! That's why this series is the number one book for me. No book could ever surpass it. :D

Now, I'll start with book 1...

First Book:

·        McGonagall to Dumbledore: “But how in the name of heaven did Harry survive?”

o   *This was answered later on, and gradually, but was answered in depth in book. The only thing he didn’t know in book 7 was that, he was also a horcrux.

·        Harry to Hagrid: “Why were you expelled?”

o   *Hagrid changed the subject here. This was answered in book 2.

·        Seamus to Headless Nick: “How did he (the bloody baron) get covered in blood?”

o   *Headless Nick didn’t elaborate, just said, “I’ve never asked.” I’m not sure if he never did. But this was answered in book 7.

·        Harry to himself: “Why does snape hate me so much?”

o   *This was answered gradually too. Was explained in book 4 and 5 but was answered in book 7.

·        Harry to Dumbledore: “What do you see when you look in the mirror?

o   *Dumbledore lied here. I think this was explained in book 7 but I didn’t think he answered it. I’ll have to recheck on this. :D

Third Book

·        Harry to Dumbledore: “Yesterday when I was having my Divination exam, Professor Trelawney went very – very strange… Was she making a real prediction?”

o   *Dumbledore said she might have been but didn’t elaborate. This was answered in book 4.

Fourth Book

·        Harry to Himself: “What was this weird connection between them (He and Voldemort) which Dumbledore had never been able to explain satisfactorily?”

o   This was answered during Occlumency lessons and book 7.

·        Ron to Harry and Hermione regarding Neville being all different after the unforgivable curses lesson with Mad-eye: “What was that about?”

o   This was answered in Book 5 when they went to St. Mungo’s.

Since, there’s not much to tell you, I’ll tell you other things I wrote in my notebook. I keep notebooks too, and lists. :D One is about proof of J.K.'s cleverness list. Which means, proof of how the books are richly-woven and not just some other series of books that doesn’t have a foundation. Another about my questions for J.K. Some of them had been answered as I read the book, but some stayed. They are questions that are not answered and mainly because they are trivial matters but still get’s you thinking. :D

Proof of J.K.'s cleverness:

·        The Dursley house, or the blood relation spell, which was since book 1, but was explained in later books, I forgot, I’ll have to recheck that

·        The prophecy, the reason why Voldemort tried to kill Harry, was mentioned implicitly by Dumbledore in book 2 but was explained in book 5

·        The secret keeper Sirius and why he was there in the Potter house in the first book, was explained in book 3

·        Dumbledore’s watch. (I really don’t know why, but I think, there’s something to this.)

·        Dumbledore’s scar. (This one too. This might have been useful.)

·        Dumbledore’s put-outer. This came useful in book 7 and was mentioned in book 1.

·        The hurting scar of Harry since book 1, was explained briefly in book 5 about occlumency, and was explained further in book 7 as being a horcrux

·        Stating that Snape might be able to read minds was pointed out in book one but was explained in book 5, occlumency

·        The stagecoaches pulling by themselves is not actually true, there’s supposed to be a horse there that you can only see once you’ve seen someone died. Which was pointed out in book 2 but was explained in book 4.

·        Bill having a penfriend in Brazil was mentioned in Book in book 4 which turned out to be Fleur Delacour who became his girlfriend and wife in book 7.

·        Sirius gave Harry a penknife as a gift on Christmas which came out to be useful in book 5, Department of Mysteries.

·        Room of Requirement was mentioned in passing here by Dumbledore during the Christmas feast but didn’t know it was called as such yet. The room came useful in book 5.

·        Snape seemed to have foreseen the interpersonal relationship between Harry, Hermione, and Ron by saying tangled lovelives. Which came transparent over the next books especially book 7.

·        The Locket horcrux was there in book 5 as they were cleaning Sirius’ house which came useful in book 7.

·        The blank canvass in Book 5, who came to be Phineas Nigellus who keeps watch for the order’s headquarters came useful in book 7.

·        Harry looking at the Hog’s head barman being vaguely familiar in book 5 was because he was Aberforth Dumbledore, who was recognized in book 7.

·        The vanishing cabinet was mentioned in book 2 and 5 and was used in book 6.

Questions to J.K.:

·        When Harry was still oblivious about being a wizard, why weren't there paparazzi's taking pictures of him so they can publish how he was doing? Because most of the wizarding folks didn't know how he looked like except for having a scar on his forehead.

·        Do they have Comfort Room's in their dormitories at Hogwarts? Like one for each room? Or is it public toilet?

·        Why does Filch call his cat Mrs. Norris? Where is Mr. Norris?

·        Why is it that Filch pops out where Mrs. Norris finds trouble? What’s their connection?

·        Why didn’t the basilisk eat the petrified students? Because it’s already stone-cold and not edible?

·        Why didn’t Harry talk to the basilisk? After all he’s a parselmouth. It was not explained in the book but it was in the movie. Tom Riddle said it only acts upon his command.

·        How come the snake wasn’t able to smell Harry?

·        Why do they address school letters in green ink?

·        How come, the future Harry and Hermione was not spotted in the Marauder’s Map when Lupin was checking it?

·        Why was Peeves not shown in the movie? And the Giant squid?

·        Why was there singing before the welcome feast? There no choir in Hogwarts, is there?

·        Why is it that Flourish and Blotts is always manned by an assistant? Where’s the owner?

·        Did Draco like anybody in Hogwarts? I don’t think he liked pansy.

·        How do they know when passwords have been changed? Or, how do the prefects now? Do they like, ask the portrait? If so, then everybody can get in. Or is it only told to the prefects? Then why was Neville able to ask the passwords in book 3?

·        How do you kill a dementor?

·        Why is Goyle not with Malfoy and Crabbe in the Shrieking Shack incident with Harry, Hermione, and Ron? And at the slapping Malfoy incident too? Why is it another guy? Did Goyle fell ill?

·        Can wizards perform magic without a wand?

·        During the fight with Padfoot and Moony, it involved scratches and bites, why didn’t Sirius become a wereworf then? Because he was an animal during the bite and werewolves are only a danger to human? But he was an animagi, not an animal. I’m confused. :D

·        Was Durmstrang co-ed too like Beauxbatons? There was a part in book 4 which seemed there were girl entrants from Durmstrang.

·        Why did The Fat Lady get furious about hanging open? Wasn’t she supposedly automatic?

·        About the Sphinx’s riddle, what’s the connection of “middle of middle”?

·        Why was Harry transported by the portkey at the edge of the maze and not the center when he got back at Hogwarts from the Riddle’s place?

·        What does Voldemort eat after his comeback?

·        I was just wondering, the barrier to platforms 9 and ¾, is it only and entrance? Can anybody exit out of it? Except of course during end of terms.

·        What was the last attractive scent Hermione smelled on the Amortentia potion that made her pink and stop delineating abruptly? She mentioned, mint, smell of parchment, and freshly-mown grass.

·        The tent that Harry, Hermione, and Ron are using, (during their hunt for the horcruxes) does it have a bathroom?

·        Why didn’t Voldemort use the killing curse on Snape? It would have been quicker. Snape wouldn’t have the prince’s tale. I know that would be the case but I’m pretty sure JK should have been able to make a far better excuse than this.

·        How does professor Binns assign grades when he doesn’t even know his students names? – this is a question from an HP site.

NOTE: The questions are based on the book only. I actually have more questions to J.K. I just couldn't remember them yet. So, I'll just update it once I remember the rest. :D And there were no unanswered-turned-answered questions for book 2, 5,6, and 7 that I was able to grasp.
